What is THIS????
Do any of y'all happen to know what THIS is? Is it a flower? A weed? Is it poisonous??
This popped up in our flower bed late last week. The bud, before it opened, resembled a tulip bud, but then it turned into this. Very interesting looking, I should say.
If you have any idea of what it is, please let me know. If it's poisonous, I need to remove it. But, if it is just a flower, then it can stay and be the talk of the family!!!

Ok, after thinking about it for a few minutes, I really thought it was probably a fall blooming bulb. I did a search on google, and came up with this site. I think it's a message board, but if you scroll down, you'll see a picture that someone posted:

Well, Tammy, I have to hand it to ya- YOU ARE GOOD!! I have no idea how you even came up with the right words to google it!! THANK YOU!! This definitely looks like it. I wonder how it got there? LOL! We've been living here 8 years and it's never come up before. Amazing! Now.. if I only had some more to plant with it... hmmmm....

=) You're sweet! I did a google image search: "fall blooming bulbs"...then when one image looked like your flower, I googled the specific name. =) I love a good challenge! LOL
I love surprise "beauties!" I remember once when I was proudly showing my Grammy (who is an expert gardener) my flower beds, we came to this particular flower and I said "I don't know what it's called but it sure is pretty." Grammy replied, "it's called a weed.!!" LOL

Susan P- I love most of the weeds I've come across- especially Queen Anne's Lace!! LOVE IT!! It reminds me of my grandma, but I can NEVER find it anywhere around here to buy and plant!!

We call these spider lilies. I have lots blooming along the side of our yard by the creek. If you dig in that spot, you will likely find several bulbs that you can transplant. They multiply like daffodils. Enjoy!
I am LOL, y'all!! Today Mr. U and I were out running errands and I saw LOTS of these in peoples yards!! Why have I not noticed before? LOL!!!

that was funny about the "it's a weed" comment....
my grandpa always said..."a weed is simply a plant growing where someone doesn't want it" soooo, whatever it is... if you want it, it's not a weed, LOL.
It's a Nerine (is what they call them in England, I'm not really sure how you spell that!)
In Japan they are called Higanbana, as they bloom around the autumn equinox, which is known as Higan.
They pop up around my gardens, too. I must have planted bulbs not knowing what they were.
I like the name Nerine........now I will know what to call them!
My mother called these flowers "Surprise Lilies." The lush green foliage comes up in the spring, dies down in the summner, and in the fall -- SURPRISE!!! -- here come these gorgeous lilies on naked stems. They're perennials, so just leave them alone and enjoy them for a lifetime.
