Show & Tell Friday- My Grandma's Quilt

Today, for Kelli's Show & Tell Friday, I would like to share something very special to me.

This is my favorite quilt in the world. My grandma made it for me when I was very small and I have fond memories of picnicing with it in our backyard as well as making forts with it in our family room. Believe me when I say this quilt has been well used over the years!!!

My grandma made Sunbonnet Sue quilts for all her granddaughters and Sunbonnet Sam (often known better as Overall Andy) quilts for all her grandsons. I'm sure this must have taken her quite a while, but she did it because she loved her grandchildren so.

My grandma was a Christian, and when she died in 1993, she went to Heaven to be with the Lord. Even though my quilt is wearing thin and doesn't warm nearly as well as it used to, when I wrap up in it and I see the stitches she lovingly made, I can't help but think, "I wonder if Grandma ever knew that her great granddaughter would be wrapped up in this quilt one day, too? I wonder if she knew it would cover her granddaughter's bed when she was grown and married? I wonder if she knew how much I would miss her?"

What a great legacy she left. I am blessed to have this beautiful quilt and blessed to have such fond memories of my dear grandma.

With tears in my eyes, I write this. It reminds me of my own beloved Grandma who went to be with Jesus in 2000! Don't you just shudder at the thought of it now, lying on the ground getting dirty or having something spilt on it during a pic-nci? What an absolute treasure!

I got bounced today, somehow I didn't quite fit into the guidelines. That's okay, my post stands as is.

Oh, it's so beautiful! I also have a Sunbonnet Sue baby quilt, made by my great-grandmother. I guess I should get it out one of these days!

What a fabulous keepsake!

I don't have memories like this from my grandma, but we are making them now for our daughter and little one on the way!

Quilting is a big deal in my husband's family, and my MIL has taught me!

Just dropped by to see what was up and saw this post. I have tears in my eyes thinking about it. My grandmother made me the very same quilt! My grandmother went to be with the Lord on Jan. 6, 2006. My grandfather followed her almost 2 months later on Feb. 27, 2006. I miss them dearly, but I have many many fond memories of the times we spent together. I know I will see them again someday. I wear their wedding rings daily as a reminder of the great love they shared for over 50 years.

I had a quilt (made by my MawMaw!) with that girl on it! We didn't call her Sunbonnet Sue, though. We said she was Holly Hobby, lol. How funny!!

How beautiful! Sun Bonnet Sues are my favorite quilts. What a precious gift and heritage your grandmother left for you. I hope you'll be able to pass it along to Elizabeth when the time is right.

A wonderful legacy. I made my daughter one of these when she was college age. She sleeps under it every night. She says it needs some repair work. I have made 4 of my 7 grands quilts and will get around to making the other 3 someday. thanks for sharing.
