Homemade Mayonnaise...

I found another wonderful blog, y'all. It's called Passionate Homemaking. Definitely go over and visit with her.

I've been wanting to make homemade mayonnaise for a few years now (since I saw Alton Brown make some on his show). It just seemed to complicated and something that only real chefs and people like Martha Stewart could do. Well, Lindsay explains how to do it and it is wonderfully easy!!! Much easier than I ever anticipated!!!

So... here it is.... Homemade Mayonnaise!!!!! Can you believe it????

Now...the next thing on my "I-simply-HAVE-to-make-that-just-to-see-if-I-really-can" list is HOMEMADE MARSHMALLOWS!!!!!! Yep, the thought of that scares me, but I WILL attempt it one day and, success or failure, y'all will hear about it.

Have a blessed day!!! And, while you're at it, try making some mayonnaise!!

Ohhhh... a the yummy goodness with out all the preservatives! Unfortunately for me, I have a couple of tubs of Costco size mayo, so I won't be in the need for more anytime soon. Sigh.

Cyndi, I'm sure you saved a good bit by buying in bulk!!! That's always a good thing!

That's one of those things that's been on my "I'd like to try that someday" list. How does it taste compared to storebought?

If you make the marshmallows, PLEASE do post about that. They sound so FUN to make!

How was the taste??? That's what I want to know!

The taste was actually pretty good. When it was first finished, it wasn't cold so it wasn't as good to me. It sat in the refrigerator overnight and was very good. Of course, NOTHING tastes half as good as Duke's Mayonnaise, but this was pretty tasty!!!

Marshmallows are not nearly as intimidating as you might imagine. They are really fun to make and you can cut them up into any shape/size that you like. A homemade marshmallow in cocoa or as part of a s'more is a real treat!

Ooh!! Thanks "anonymous"!!! I feel a bit better after you said that... now to just actually DO it. :)

When you made them, did you use a stand mixer or a hand mixer??

Yay!!! I just LOVEEEEE Mayonaise--it is a weakness of mine--I could forego chocolate any day, but I could never give up mayo:)

Marshmellows are interesting--I have been wanting to try those too--I will let you go first ...LOL.

I love homemade mayo, but I worry about salmonella from the raw eggs. Any thoughts about that?

Hi Mrs U!

It's me, "anonymous" Laura marshmallow maker again. I use both mixers regularly, but for the marshmallows I believe I use the hand mixer. As the little guys are "no bake" they are particularly fun. Good luck!

Hi Marie!!!
Good question about eggs. I read this from Dr. Mercola about eating raw eggs. I trust what he says.

I hope you find this helpful!

I always use Grapeseed Oil Vegenaise and love the taste and that it is super healthy, but it comes with a super healthy price tag. I think I will try the homemade kind. I bet it is good.

Mrs. U,
Is that really a picture of your finished product? My goodness. How did yours come out so nice and fluffy and so white too. Mine was much more runny and yellow. Interesting...you will have to give me a few pointers back. ;)

Hi Lindsay!!!

Yes ma'am, that is really a picture of my finished mayonnaise. It looked just like the store bought stuff! I was amazed.

I don't know what pointers to give because I got the recipe from you. :) I *think* I may have drizzled the oil (I used light olive oil) in super slowly. I think it took me about 5 minutes to drizzle it in.

The blender worked like normal, but then at the end, it didn't want to blend any more. I looked it and saw that it was nicely thickened and yummy. I was VERY surprised with how easy it was and how nice the end result turned out.

Our homemade mayo is all gone now. A little went on sandwiches, but I also used it in flavored mayo (mayo, balsamic vinegar and black pepper for some hamburgers) and in ranch salad dressing. YUM!!

So THANK YOU, Mrs. Lindsay, for your delicious recipe!!!

I just got through making oh so yummy mayonnaise. Thanks for sharing this. I love how easy it was and I think I will try it next time with grapeseed oil and let you know how it turns out. I can't wait for it to be chilled. I think another picnic is in order for tomorrow! Have a great weekend.

My hubby came home for lunch and he was game to try it warm on his finger...verdict is in...he really liked it. Of course if he likes it warm by it's self it should be a keeper when it is cold on a sammie.
