She's home now...

I just found out earlier that Rachel Barkey died peacefully in her sleep July 2nd. Please pray for her husband and their two children. And, please, if you have not already, take some time to watch her video, Death is Not Dying.

Mrs. U,

That just breaks my heart, she was so brave. She was certainly fulfilling her purpose, even though the circumstances were tough. Could I do that? Only through Christ, as she did. I can not imagine going through that.

Thank you for sharing. I will certainly be praying for her family tonight.

I was just thinking of her last night and wondering how she was doing. As one who is currently battling almost exactly the same cancer, I was very moved by her story. May the Lord strengthen her family and give them peace.

Oh, Loretta!!!
What type of cancer are you dealing with? What treatment are you pursuing??? What can we do to help? I will pray!!

Oh, thank you, Mrs. U--I appreciate all the prayers I can get. :) I have stage IV metastatic breast cancer, just as Rachel did. I was first diagnosed in Jan. 05 and after two different chemo regimens, a mastectomy, and 36 rounds of radiation, we thought we had beaten it. But in Jan. of this year, four years to the day after my first diagnosis, we learned the cancer is back with a vengeance. It's throughout my spine, sternum and liver, plus I have pleural effusion with cancer growing in the fluid that's in the lining of my lungs. Even though I thought my first chemo in 05 would kill me, I was so violently ill, we chose to fight again and I am now in my seventh month of treatment, on three different chemo drugs (Abraxane, Avastin & Zometa). So far, I haven't been sick at all, although I have lost my hair again, my blood counts have plummeted, and I'm very tired. I'm doing pretty well, though, and believe that God still works miracles. :) I'm 54 years old and my husband and I have been married almost 36 years, but we didn't become parents until we adopted a beautiful newborn baby girl 19 years ago. I'm not ready to give up the fight--I want to see my grandchildren! It's the desire of my heart, and always has been. That's why Rachel's story breaks my heart; she was so young and with such young children. :(

I'm sorry...I didn't mean to take over your comments page, lol. Thank you so much for your prayers; they mean more than I can express.

God bless you,
Loretta

Yes, I realize I am 19 years late on that congratulations, but I am SO happy for y'all! Isn't adoption grand!?? I mean, did you have ANY idea you could love one little person so very much!???!?!?!

Do you mind if I post your last comment on my blog? I'd love for others to know to pray for you!!
