Birthday cake for Mr. U...

Yep, that's a birthday cake alright!!! Mr. U's birthday was yesterday and we spent the day together just having fun!! We bought him a new grill for his special day and he's all ready to fire it up this Sunday for Father's Day. I'm telling you, this man can GRILL!!! I think he'd give Bobby Flay some fierce competition!!!

Each year for his birthday, he requests the same meal- Chicken Parmesan, Mashed Potatoes and Peanut Butter Cake for dessert. (Notice, he conveniently leaves out anything veggie related. He keeps telling, me that potatoes are veggies, but I still put them in the starch/bread category... I digress...).

Peanut Butter Cake is FANTASTIC!!! And I wish with all my heart that I could share the recipe with y'all, but I can't. It's a secret family recipe! No, really! It REALLY is!! When Mr. U's mother gave me the recipe, she made me triple promise that I would NEVER share it with anyone except family members. I think I CAN tell you that it is a MUST that you use Jif Peanut Butter. Other than that, I cannot share a thing. But if y'all ever want to let me know y'all are coming over, I'll be happy to make one and share it with you!!!

So this was my "Show and Tell" for today... PLEASE visit Kelli over at There's No Place Like Home for more WONDERFUL blogs to visit!!!

What a sweet wife you are, Mrs U! And an obedient daughter in law.

I have a secret recipe too. It's for Hidden Valley ranch dip, but mine tastes like no other. Everyone always wonders why.

Peanut butter anything is my favorite. However, I completely understand not sharing the recipe. I have a few I can't share either. Is that new BBQ grill going to take the place of your stove now?

I'll be there on Sunday for better than Bobby Flay BBQ and peanut butter cake...

Peanut Butter cake! Yum! Perfect!

We do the same thing for birthdays...each year, for dinner, my kids are given the choice: a night out for dinner or a homecooked meal of their choice. Each year, it's the same--Mom's homemade Spaghetti dinner and fixin's. I don't have the heart to tell them, my spaghetti dinner isn't so homemade....it's the Traditional Ragu Sauce, sprinkled with a little bit of sugar, and marinated for a little more than 20 minutes! Of course, it is a well kept secret around here....they think it's my secret homemade recipe.. What love!

Happy Belated birthday to your hubby!

Happy Birthday to Mr. U! And I think it's wonderful having a secret family recipe. That's the beauty and joy of family ~ handing down tradition! And that looks like one yummy tradition! ;o)

The cake looks very yummy! I'm glad Mr. U was able to spend his birthday with those who love him best. :)

Sounds delicious!!

Yes, potatoes are extremely starchy. On a diabetic diet, you have to measure them the same as other starches!

Happy Birthday to Mr. U. :)

And yes, the Father has created so many beautiful things!

I like your show and tell and Happy Birthday to your husband.

I understand about the "secret recipe" thing. Many years ago a friend gave me her family's recipe for baked beans and they are a hit every time I make them. But she made me promise to keep the recipe a secret, so I have. It, too, requires a certain brand.

Oh yes, you asked where the pictures were made. My husband pastored a church in the northern part of our state for 7 years. The pictures were made out on the patio.....Betty

It sounds like the grill was the perfect gift... but I am wonderin who will enjoy it the most?
I love it when my hubby grills. I can sit out and chat while he works~ and no dishes to wassh!

I have never seen peanut butter cake. I am totally a chocolate nut but I would definitely eat that if you offered me a piece.

By the way, I actually went on the Jif site thinking you were perhaps sneaking around actually giving us a recipe by letting us know in link fashion that the recipe was on that site. But alas ... I believe you are just shooting straight with us. It is indeed a secret. Rats!

Thanks for the birthday greetings at my blog. And do tell Mr. U Happy Flag Day for me :)

Peanut butter cake is our new favorite around here! My Mom got her recipe from Barefoot Contessa. She made cupcakes for Easter and they were so good, I requested the cake for my birthday in April and we are having it again for my daughter's birthday on the 22nd! Yum!

Hapy birthday to your husband!

We are a peanut butter family. The grandchildren will just eat a spoonful of it if they need a snack--A habit they picked up from their Poppy!

I may have to hunt for a Peanut Butter Cake recipe--It looks delicious!

I'm a bit late, but this cake does look great! Happy birthday to Mr. U. And as a nutritionist I definitely agree that potatoes are not veggies, but belong to the bread/starch category :)
