Do you use a dish drainer???

Just curious how many of you use a dish drainer?  If you do not use one, do you just dry as you wash?  And what do you do when you have a ton of dishes??

If you DO you use, how long do you let your dishes sit there?  And do you ever put the dish drainer away??

Yes nearly every household here in Greece uses a dish drainer. I wash the dishes, let them drain in the drainer and once they are dry I put them away. Now if I have many dishes, whatever fits in the drainer will be placed there, whatever doesn't fit is layed on kitchen cloth towels that have been placed on the kitchen table.

I have a double sink, and have a dish drainer on one side. I don't have a dishwasher, so when I do dishes I lay a towel out on the counter and put the glasses and similar dishes on the towel, and stack the drainer as high as I can. :) If I only have a towel/drainer of dishes then I let them air dry before putting them away.

I don't use one. I just put a dish towel on the counter. I don't like the cluttered looks of a dish drainer on the counter. My mother-in-law uses a dish mat like this:

It works great and I have often thought of getting one.

Have a great day!

I have a small drain rack that rests across one side of the double sink. I like how it fits right over the sink so that water can drip into the sink. It used to annoy me to have one of those plastic drain trays on the counter underneath the rack for the water to drain into. Don't like the wet towel approach either. The rack I use now is small enough to fit under the sink when not in use.

I hand wash my pots and a handful of other things. I put the pots on top of the stove to dry and if I have a lot more stuff, I just lay out a couple of dish rags and put the dishes on it to dry.

Hope you have a blessed day!

I use one! Like the others, if I have too many dishes to fit in it, I lay the rest (usually the bigger stuff, pots and pans) upside down to dry on towels next to the drainer. We wash dishes twice a day (after lunch and after dinner). The breakfast/lunch dishes get put away before I fix dinner, and the dinner dishes get put away the next morning when I get ready to make breakfast! Or...if there's company coming, they might get put away sooner!

I do not, but my MIL does and she uses one my husband and I bought her at Williams-Sonoma outlet. It is stainless steel.

I do not. I use the dishwasher for most dishes. I hand wash pots and pans and a few other dishes - I put them to dry on kitchen towels. If I wash them after dinner, then I let them dry overnight and put them away the next morning.

We don't have a dish washer, so we wash by hand and then use a dish rack. I found this a few years ago, it's quite big and all the parts are simple to take out and clean. Also bonus points on the front pegs that stick out to dry your glasses/cups. :) Works great!

We used one before we had a dishwasher; now if I need to do hand washing, I dry it with a dish towel, or I spread out a dish towel and let my things dry. I think a drainer is definitely the way to go if you do all your dishes by hand, though!

Dishwasher!! But for my hand wash items just a dish towel on the counter to lay them out on.

We currently live in a 30' travel trailer awaiting retirement. I use a drain mat. I got it at Walmart. It works fine now, but will use a dish drainer when we land.

I do not use one. I use dishtowels. If I have a lot of dishes, which I often do, I end up with dish towels on every counter covered in clean dishes. They dry, I put them away, and hang the towles to dry till it's dish time again.

My dishwasher broke, and instead of fixing it, I decided I'd rather have the storage space, so we went back to hand washing, and I like it.

We use a dish drainer that sits by the sink, and it lives there. I don't put it away. We wash and stack the dishes in the drainer after every meal. With my family of six, one meal fills the drainer, including sometimes placing mixing bowls on top of the all the plates.

I put the dishes away whenever I notice they are dry, or right before we wash from the next meal. I don't have to put cups/glasses in the drainer, as there are six little hook things around the outside, that are for hanging cups on.

I use a dishtowel to dry very large bowls, pasta strainers, and my pots and pans, and they get immediately put away.

I have a dishwasher but still wash dishes by hand some. I use a towel or mat. I have had dish drainers in the the past but they take up valuable counter space.

We have a dishwasher but still have a number of items that I hand wash (china tea cups and saucers, fancy glassware, etc.). I have a stainless steel dish drainer which always stays out. I let dishes dry overnight, covered with a tea towel, and put away in the morning. It's more hygienic than drying with a towel.

Deanna, I do dishes the same way!! Cover them with a towel and let them dry overnight. :) Our mothers must have trained us the same way!

I don't use a dish drainer, or a towel or any kind of mat. Whatever I wash by hand I just set down directly on the countertop to the right of the sink. I never have to wash a mat or towel, and I don't have any problems with mold, water pooling or things not drying. It all dries quickly and easily. And I can fit more dishes in the space than if I used a rack. I honestly cannot understand what the purpose of a dish drainer is. What are they supposed to do??
