Small town living...

You know you live in a small town when the latest big "thing" to do is visit the new grocery store that just opened!!!

It's been the latest talk around town for a week and a half now, so this morning we headed into town to visit the new and improved grocery store that now offers breakfast, lunch and dinner, too!!! We each had our choice of biscuits and Elizabeth had her beloved bacon and grits. FUN!

What's the new big "thing" going in in your town??

When an Aldi opened in my small hometown, that was a big deal because it was so different than what we were used to. Unfortunately, different isn't better because it's never full.

Ooh, an IGA? I didn't know they were still around! Looks like it has a wonderful produce section! We had an IGA in our small (eh, Teeny Tiny is more like it) little town in VT where I grew up. My first 'paying' job was being a cashier there! haha. We are getting a Christmas Tree shop soon in these parts...I can't wait!!

How exciting! I have always lived in the suburbs where we have everything we need at our fingertips but even then a new store is always exciting! A grocery store that you can sit and have lunch is a plus for any parent!

P.S. I can't get over the cost of bananas!! Sheesh... I think ours are under 60 cents a lb!!

Oops!! Sorry, I forgot to add to the original post that this was NOT the grocery store we visited this morning. I found the photo online and just linked to it. :)

Sorry for the confusion!

I like the fact that you can get breakfast at your new store. Around here all you can get at grocery in the morning is donuts.

I live in the burbs and it is always big news here when a new grocery opens.

Hmmm, we don't live in a small town! We live in a large suburban area. :(

But I still prefer the smaller grocery stores anyday to the huge chain stores. Seriously, going to the nearby Costco, Walmart, or Superstore stresses me out. This kind of little store (almost like a market) is so cute and makes shopping actually fun. We used to live near one of these.

Nothing happens out here in my little country community. That's just fine with us.
The city where I have to bank and shop just got a brand new Walmart, it opened Wed. It's a prototype, if it's not the largest in U.S., it's one of a few. It's a Megastore not a Superstore. I'm going there Monday to grocery shop, if I don't like it I'll just go back to my other grocery store.
Just what America needed huh, another WalMart.

The big thing around here (in Southern CA) is the big shake out, a huge earthquake drill.

While I did not take part, I did check our emergency stash of water and then water the lawn with it when I discovered it was expired! And tonight at Henry's I bought a replenishment stash.

And my 4 year old has decided that Ina Garten is indeed kitchen royalty.

Fun blog, I'll be back to visit. Our friends live in KS and all they talk about is Aldi. Wish we had one in Texas.

I live in a big city, and there is ALWAYS something going on... Busy, busy, busy. Sounds exciting to live in a small town and get excited over a new store opening! (By the way, the picture you chose had bananas for $1.59/pound ~ YIKES! I paid $.25/pound this morning at a special sale.)

Our local news, the growing unemployment numbers. Ugh!
I would so love a plate of grits, eggs and bacon! That's a true Southern breakfast!
I decided to post a list of frugal grocery shopping questions on my blog.
I invite you to share your answers to some or all of them. I could use some help.
Thank you.
