I don't know about your home, but here we LOVE hot chocolate. We've been known to have it for breakfast, snack time, dessert, even in a pretty tea pot at tea time!!!
I grew up with my mom always making her own hot chocolate mix. It was soooo good!!! I wanted to find my own version and this recipe was born!!!
Homemade Hot Chocolate Mix
2 cups powdered milk
1 cup sugar
1/2 cup powdered coffee creamer (plain)
1/2 cup unsweetened cocoa powder
Mix all these together in a bowl and carefully pour into jar. This makes a nice full quart of hot chocolate mix.
To make into hot chocolate, fill mug about 2/3 full with boiling water (gotta leave room for whipped cream y'all!!!!!) and spoon mix into hot water and let it dissolve. I like 1/3 cup mix per mug for myself and I give the girls 1/4 cup of mix per mug. Once it's dissolved, carefully stir to make sure it's mixed well. Top with whipped cream and chocolate shavings for extra yumminess!!!! (I buy a yummy milk chocolate bar from Aldi and chop it up and keep it in the freeze to pull out and sprinkle on top of our hot chocolate as we need it.)
One really great thing about making your own mixes like this is that you can make it to YOUR family's liking. Not chocolatey enough? Add a tablespoon or two more of the cocoa powder per quart of mix!! Want less sugar? Leave out 1/4 cup of sugar and see how it is. Want to give it as gifts at Christmas? Tripe, quadruple, sextuple (is that a word??) the recipe and give out with directions and a happy bow on top!!!!
If y'all make this, let me know!!! This has been our "go to" hot chocolate recipe for about 15 years and we haven't tired of it yet!!
PS- At Christmas, we stopped at Starbucks for coffee and hot chocolate for my girlies and they said, "Mommy, your recipe is better!!" YAY!!!! Homemade for the win!!
